RESOLUTION REGARDING THE USE OF
‘BMC’ ACRONYM BY BLACK MUSIC CONGRESS & THE BLACK MUSIC
COUNCIL
Black Music Congress hereby announce that in agreement with The Black
Music Council - the Congress will continue to be referred to as
BMC, and
the Council as TBMC.
Media practitioners are advised to adhere to this convention as of the
date
of this press release.
"I am pleased to announce that this matter has been amicably dealt
with by
the two organisations, and that we are focusing on promoting and
highlighting issues concerning black music in Britain," says BMC
founder
Kwaku.
The BMC, launched in May 2002, provides a forum for debating and
raising
awareness regarding black music issues with a British focus, the music
industry, education, and it also provides networking opportunities.
"The TMBC was established in September 2004 in direct response to
the
Outrage campaign against dancehall artists. The TBMC has
undertaken as
part of its broader objectives to positively promote, develop and
establish
authentic black music with specific focus placed on the maintenance and
conservation of the cultural, artistic and musical heritage stemming
from
the black diaspora for the next generation and those to follow,”
states
TBMC chairman Blacker Dread.

Music Congress debate: What Can We Do To Build A British Black Music
Industry?
One
of the decisons made after the last BMC debate, 'British Black Music Is
Dead -Discuss', was that we need to create solid infrastructures in
order to build a sustainable black music industry in Britain. This
debate/workshop aims to focus on steps needed to turn that vision into
reality - and what role interested parties can play in that process.
