Dear
Kwaku
Thanks for your mail. There is a significance to the banner which I will
explain:
As you may know Capital Radio Group acquired Choice FM in March of this year
and I took over as MD. We are in the middle of putting together a plan for the
future development of Choice FM into one of the leading radio stations in
London - where it deserves to be, as music of black origin deserves to have a
better, bigger more exciting station for London.
As part of this plan we wish to extensively help support, promote and showcase
British Urban Music. We are in the middle of putting together a major
initiative which we will announce in the next few months to support this aim.
We want to help create as vibrant a music scene in Britain amongst urban acts
as there is within say the rock sector, something we actively support through
one of our other stations - Xfm.
In advance of announcing and putting together this initiative we are beginning
to do one or two things to support our aim - so for the Respect festival, the
acts on our stage were all UK acts - we put on 17 acts on our stage, all of
which were British and hence the banner.
Stimulating the British Urban Music scene will not happen overnight and
therefore at the moment the majority of the music we play is American, as that
is what is currently popular, however we are increasing our British music
output and we hope that as the UK scene becomes more vibrant we will increase
our UK content accordingly. From small acorns and all that!
I very much hope that you will be supportive of our aims in this area - its so
important that Choice FM, as the only analogue radio station dedicated to
urban music is at the forefront of support the UK urban music scene.
With best wishes
Graham
