State Of British Black Music

Hinda Hicks
| I think that the current climate for British black
music is an exciting one. With the advent of outlets such as the U
Channel, it has given fresh, new scope and optimism for the young
talent to filter through. There is also a positive and creative burst
of new energy beginning to emerge within the British black music
scene. There are new ideas, new concepts, and a new founded pride to be UK
coming through the scene. I also think that it is encouraging to see more
people getting involved behind the scenes, and learning about the
mechanics of the industry & how it works. More importantly, exploring
and refining how they can make it work for them. This can only
be healthy for the future development and prosperity of the scene as a
whole. This is what it's all about at the end of the day. Lastly, I think
that unity is paramount for any real and substantial development
of the British black music scene, and that is across all genres. There is
still need, room, and further scope for all involved in the
scene to collaborate with one another in the quest for more dynamic growth
and longevity. Production-wise and quality-wise, the bar is constantly
being raised. Which can only be be a good thing. Each one teach one.
