The 'Lovers Rock' Competition

CLOSED. Winners: Etheline Byfield (South-east London), Nicole Hall, Chloe Harewood (Manchester)

STOP PRESS: Competition closing date extended to Monday November 1

We've also got three copies of Kickin Music/SlipNSlide's 'The Lovers Rock Story' in our simple compo. Also, if you want to re-live the memories, or simply want to skank to lover's rock tunes, you can enjoy the album launch club night for free on Thursday Oct 21, 2004. That's if you make sure you get to AKA/The End, 16s West Central Street, London WC1 (Tottenham Court Rd tube), before 11am. Else you'll have to fork out a hefty three quid to get in! DJs Dennis Bovell and Gladdy Wax will be spinning those '70s revival tunes all night long!

Back to the album, it contains 15 tracks taken from the DIP/Lovers Rock label which pioneered the lover's rock style in the mid-to-late 1970s. We are talking artists like TT Ross, Dennis Bovell, Cassandra, John Kpiaye, and Brown Sugar, which included a then teenaged Carton Wheeler. We talking big tunes like 'I'm In Love With A Dreadlocks', 'Black Pride', 'Jealousy', and 'If You're Not Back In Love By Monday'!

Fancy a free copy? We've got three to give away. All you have to do is to email us with the name of one of the producers behind any of the DIP or Lovers Rock releases to reach us by before midnight Monday November 1 2004. We'll select the lucky three from the electronic bag. If you don't win, don't worry - the album is widely available from October 25. Click to email answer: editor@britishblackmusic.com
